Trend forecasting for jewellery designers — reading the year ahead
Trends are legible months ahead — if you know where the signals live.
Trends are not weather — they are legible if you read the right signals
early.
The signal chain — haute couture (18-24 months out) → ready-to-wear
runways (12-18) → street style and celebrities (6-12) → retail (now).
Jewellery follows fashion's colour and silhouette waves with a lag.
What to watch
- Colour forecasts — the annual colour systems cascade into beads,
resin and fibre within a season. - Material waves — a runway season of wood/glass/resin is a maker's
order brief. - Silhouette shifts — earring scale swings, necklace length drifts
(the chart gets re-quotable).
Translating forecast to bench — one trend per collection, filtered
through your own aesthetic (the training), never more (the
restraint rule).
The dedicated skill lives in the contemporary trends course.
