Fabric and fibre jewellery — the textile crossover
Fibre and bead — the textile crossover that fashion jewellery runs on.
Fibre is fashion jewellery's secret ingredient — light, colourful,
textural, and wearable at scales metal cannot attempt.
The techniques
- Wrapping — thread or cord wrapped beads and bangles; tension
discipline again. - Knotting — sliding knots (the adjustable closure every traveller
loves), lark's-head mounts. - Tassels — the boho engine; straight-cut vs knotted skirts.
- Macrame — knotted structure; cords become the whole piece.
- Fabric beads — rolled, glued, glazed; textile prints become beads.
The professional bar — fibre pieces read amateur through two tells:
fuzzy edges and flimsy ends. Singe/seal synthetic cords, glue-and-cap the
ends, and let hardware upgrades carry polish.
The fashion jewellery ladder teaches fibre alongside beads and wire —
start at FJ100 or taste it in the workshop.
