Pricing handmade jewellery — a framework, not a formula
Your hours have a rate — the framework makes sure the price says so.
No single formula prices handmade jewellery — but a framework keeps you
honest on both ends.
The floor (cost-based) — materials + packaging + your hourly rate +
overhead share + selling fees. If the market will not pay the floor, the
problem is the design, the materials, or the channel — never the rate.
The ceiling (market-based) — what comparable pieces sell for in YOUR
channel (markets ≠ boutiques ≠ online). Research honestly; position
deliberately.
The value layer (between) — techniques that raise price honestly:
certified skills, rare materials with disclosed provenance,
heirloom construction, named techniques ("hand-knotted").
Psychological price points — 45 reads cheaper than 50; 120 reads
serious. Round or charm — but never apologetic.
The review cadence — repricing quarterly; material costs move. The
entrepreneurship course builds the full model with real numbers;
the collection method
keeps the tiers coherent.
