Vintage revival — the eras fashion jewellery keeps rediscovering
Every decade signs its jewellery — learning the signatures is trend literacy.
Fashion cycles through jewellery's back catalogue on a 30-50 year
rotation. The eras and their signatures:
- Art Deco (1920-35) — geometry, symmetry, onyx+diamond contrast,
baguette lines. Revives hardest in bridal. - Mid-century (40s-50s) — goldvolume, atomic motifs, pearled
elegance. - The 70s — amber tones, wood and brass, long pendants, texture.
- The 80s — gilded excess, bold colour, statement earrings (quieter
than the originals: run through today's minimalist filter). - The 90s — chokers, minimal silver, grunge honesty.
Designing revival honestly — quote the SIGNATURE (one or two era
markers), update the scale and weight to modern comfort, and never
replicate outright — the trends course teaches exactly this
discipline: reference without costume.
